Childish Gambino Performs at Washington D.C.

Donald Glover, better known as Childish Gambino, took the stage on August 29 in Washington D.C. for a show in his New World Tour. Inside the Capital One Arena, he performed famous songs from his catalog.

To start the night off, he played songs from his new album, “Bando Stone and the New World,” and the crowd exploded as the first beat dropped. Everyone started dancing, a trend that continued throughout the performance. After the first song ended, Glover told the fans his rules of the night, one of them being that the audience needed to have as much fun as humanly possible.

“He played my favorite songs from ‘Awaken my Love,’ which reminded me of spending time with my friends and having fun,” senior at Albemarle High School Annabelle Lindsay said. “I loved watching the way he danced and was able to interact with the crowd.”

Glover asked the crowd if they were true fans before performing music from some of his earliest works. Glover busted out songs from albums like “Camp” (2011) and “Because the Internet,” (2013) and the audience sang along with him, proving they were true fans.

In an interview with Apple Music, Glover talked about his overall goal with “Bando Stone and the New World,” as it will be his last under the persona Childish Gambino. Giving more details about how his persona is affecting his personal life.

“Really, all it is a goodbye album,” Glover said. As Glover got further into the interview, he also expressed his concern for making the most out of the tour. “If this live show isn’t the best show you have ever seen in your life by the first song, then you can have your money back.”

To end the concert, Glover thanked the crowd for spending time with him, proclaiming, “D.C. has always been a second home to me.”

He wrapped up the evening by playing some of the crowd’s most beloved songs, a choice that left one concert attendee overjoyed.

“My mom brought me to the show as an early birthday present,” freshman at Albemarle High School Davison Lindsay said, “and he played my favorite song as the closer. It was amazing.”
