Summer is right around the corner, and the hallways have been buzzing with summer plans. Many students and staff have been talking about where they plan to travel, and some exciting locations have been brought up.
Junior Kayleigh Metz’s family always goes on trips during the summer. One summer they went to Greece and another they went to Costa Rica. This summer, the Metz family is planning on going to Amsterdam at the beginning of May and to Iceland in mid-June.

“We’re going to just wander around and go sightseeing, and Iceland’s mainly just hiking and glacier stuff,” Metz said. “Iceland’s going to be my whole family, and Amsterdam will just be me and my parents.”
Another student is going to Nassau, Bahamas, with her family and is going to stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas resort. Junior Kristen Martinez is looking forward to visiting Nassau since it is her first time flying out of the States and her first time visiting the Bahamas. She plans to do a lot of activities with her family.
“We’ll probably go swimming at the beach and do lots of shopping,” Martinez said. “I really hope to see the sea life because where we’re staying has an aquarium. I hope to see dolphins and turtles and stuff like that. I also really want to go swimming with the pigs.”
Some teachers are also going to different places this summer, including Iceland and the Hawaiian Islands. Ecology teacher Shannon King is going to Iceland for five days in June. She is going with a friend from high school, Cheryl Urban. King plans on doing many fun things to make the most of the trip.
“So we will be landing in Reykjavik, and then we are going to travel up to Dalvik, which is the northern part of the country,” King said. “Then we will take a ferry to the island of Sandvik, and we are going to stand on the Arctic Circle. Then, we will travel back to Reykjavik and spend a couple of days there,” King said. “We’re driving over half of the country to Dalvik, and then we’re hoping to see whales and puffins.
Our goal is to see puffins and to purchase all of the silly tourist wear. There are some things in Reykjavik that I’d like to see. There’s a couple of museums, and the shopping there is kind of cool, so I want to get some Icelandic fashion. They have ice shields there, and I’m really hoping to see some of that, maybe some glaciers, because they have glaciers, volcanoes, and waterfalls.”
Science teacher Patrick Miller is going to the Hawaiian Islands of Hawai’i and Honolulu. He is going on a school-organized trip with 11 students this June for eight days, and plans to do many fun things and see breathtaking views. This is his first time going to the Hawaiian Islands, so he is eager to go and do all the unique things there.

“Every day we’re going to start off with a hike to a waterfall or volcano and then we’re going to end the day with a different beach for some relaxation,” Miller said.
