Worldwide racing sensation, “Formula 1,” has hit theatres in a new and action-packed film. This film follows the story of race car driver, Sonny Hayes, who returned to F1 30 years after a career-altering accident.
“From a more motorsport perspective, I like the way Sonny Hayes kind of re-entered after his accident,” junior Ramzey Jimenez said. “It’s just a few quirks that I would change, like mainly at the end, where he reappears for the final race. In real life, it’s not how it would have happened, because he wouldn’t have been able to participate in the race that way.”
On May 21, 2025, a special screening was held in Monaco for F1 drivers (Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, etc.) before the Monaco Grand Prix which took place on May 25, 2025. The official premiere for the film was held in New York City one month prior to the release on June 27, 2025.
“I was nervous to see what all the drivers were going to think, because it was a very, very hard balance to get it to not be just Hollywood, be authentic, but also you still need drama and chaos, underdog and all that kind of stuff in it,” Hamilton said in an interview.
Many stars from the movie, drivers, directors, and others were in attendance, according to CBS Austin. “F1: The Movie” raced into theatres on July 27, 2025 in the United States, and was released on June 25, 2025 internationally.

“I watched the film just before school started with my brother and dad at Regal IMAX in Richmond,” Jimenez said.
Actor Brad Pitt stars alongside many other actors and actresses, as well as real F1 drivers. He plays the main role of fictional driver, Sonny Hayes. In a recent interview posted on YouTube by Formula 1, Pitt talks about the journey to become Hayes and how he enjoyed playing that role because, growing up, he loved the idea of racing.
“I had the time of my life, and I will say I’m a little sad,” Pitt said. “I’ve got to figure out a sequel.”
Many musicians collaborated with the movie in order to make the soundtrack, “F1 the Album,” which can be streamed on many platforms such as Spotify. Some of the songs on the soundtrack include: “Just Keep Watching” by Tate McRae, “All at Once” by Madison Beer, and “Lose My Mind” by Doja Cat and Don Toliver. Fans of these artists and F1 were especially excited to watch this film because two things they enjoyed would be merged into one.
“[The music] makes the whole thing way more locked in, tunnel vision to the whole idea, the vision” Toliver said in an interview with Apple Music. “It just made everything so fun. It’s crazy.”
