The Louisa County golf team is in the midst of their season. So far, they’ve won one and lost three matches. They play Goochland next on Sept. 11, at Cutalong, Louisa’s home course.

“I’m really loving playing for the team and Coach Pearson,” senior Stephen Smith said, “This is my first year on the team, and I really love being part of it for my senior year.”

Five seniors are on the team this season, including Ava Garrison. Over the summer, she traveled up and down the east coast playing in multiple high-level tournaments. Garrison recently committed to play golf at Radford University. She is the high school’s number one-ranked player and has been in their top six since her freshman year.

“School golf is probably my favorite time to play golf because I love being with a team instead of being all alone on a course,” Garrison said, “I really love playing for this team and Pearson because they’re always so supportive and lift me up.”

Social studies teacher, Chris Pearson, is the head golf coach. When I went to a match, Pearson brought a Happy Gilmore twist to golf by infusing the game with a fun and energetic spirit. This lively style not only keeps players engaged but also encourages a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere on the course.

“Pearson is just a crazy dude in a good way,” sophomore Nadiya Jackson said, “He has always brought the best out in me.”

Last season, the team went 4-3 with one state qualifier, 2025 graduate Gabi McGehee. This year, the team looks to build on the record the team set last year.

“My goal is to make it to the state tournament,” Garrison said, “It’s been the goal ever since I started playing in high school.”
