As seasons change, the activities that people prefer change with it. When fall comes around the corner, sweaters and blankets are taken out of storage as people bundle up with the breezy weather. According to Sunshine House, popular activities one can participate in include pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits, book reading, movie nights and making/jumping in leaf piles.
Due to the growing colder weather, staying inside and watching movies, whether alone or with friends and family, is one of the more popular choices. 64.8% of students answered in a survey that watching movies is one of their favorite fall activities.
“I’m definitely a homebody,” senior Kasey Goldschmidt said. “I just love to watch a movie and cuddle up in blankets, that’s basically all I need.”
Instead of staying in their houses, many drive to other ‘scarier’ houses for a thrill. As October is a part of the fall season, haunted houses are usually a staple of the Halloween theme. According to America Haunts, there are hundreds of haunted houses all around, with the majority of them being visited primarily by teens and young adults.
“Haunted houses remind me of fall because of the weather getting crisper and there’s usually a lot of fog, leaving a creepy feeling that reminds me of Halloween,” School Resource Officer Nathan Harris said. “I go with my family and it’s fun because it gets the adrenaline up, it’s just a fun activity.”
Pumpkins are also a part of the fall aesthetic and what many think of when fall makes an appearance. Taking trips to pumpkin patches is a favored date idea, where people pick pumpkins, take photos, and walk through the rows of pumpkins, looking for a suitable pumpkin to carve/decorate.
“The pictures are so good during fall,” junior Maya Akram said. “The leaves fall so nicely and it really adds to the colors of the season.”
