Popular book series-turned-Netflix hit, “A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder” debuted in August and has lived up to the hype for fans that have been waiting to see their favorite book characters on-screen.
One of the biggest things fans are tuning in to see is whether the casting of the characters would match their expectations. The new Netflix adaptation did not disappoint.
“Holly Jackson, the author, picked the main character, Emma Myers, and the guy who plays Ravi Signh,” sophomore Jack Harris said. “I think they align with the characters in the book when watching the show. When I read the book, and later watched the show a couple of weeks later, I could picture them as the characters. And Emma Myers does a great job as Pip.”
Not only did “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” nail it with the casting, producers did a great job staying true to the plot of the book by keeping lots of important scenes and details that fans were anticipating, like the various mysteries and affairs that happen in both the book and the show. Though there are some differences, fans will see the dedication the team had in bringing the book to life in six episodes.
“Overall, I think that they did a really good job, senior Lily Hubler Said. “I think as we move more to the modern day, we’re getting better at making adaptations that are more true to the book, like with the ‘Percy Jackson’ series.”
Luckily, Jackson, producers, and directors knew the importance of remaining true to the books and were hands-on in the development of the Netflix series. As an executive producer, Jackson made sure the spirit of her book was present in the TV adaptation.
According to Jackson, the author of the “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” series, “All the characters we love, and the same story and plot twists are there from the book because I know readers are very protective and want to see a faithful adaptation.”
Jackson and the Netflix team have a hit on their hands and rumors are swirling that a season two is on the way, though it is yet to be confirmed. With three books in the series, fans hope the rumors come true.
“I loved this first season; I hope there will be a season two,” Harris said.
