With the fall season in full swing, these are great movies to cozy up and watch to get in the halloween spirit.
“Hotel Transylvania” might not be everyone’s first choice for a fall-time movie, but there are a couple of characteristics that have the movie making the cut for this list. The movie is more youthful than many might have chosen, and this makes Hotel Transylvania a perfect contrast to what most of the movies being played during this season. The characters being monsters adds a Halloween vibe without the scary aspects since the movie follows residents of a monster hotel who are family friends. “Hotel Transylvania” is a great movie to watch with family and friends if a more lighthearted film is preferred.
2. Harry Potter
“Harry Potter” is a classic fall-time franchise to watch. The movies’ vibe stays dark and cold throughout the series, and most of the movies are set during the fall and winter seasons. “Harry Potter” is all about magic which connects it back to the Halloween season because of the creatures like werewolves, ghosts and three-headed dogs. The Halloween holiday is also celebrated in the movie, shown through floating jack-o-lanterns. Each movie also links it to the Halloween season as most of the movies have darker themes.
3. Hocus Pocus
“Hocus Pocus” is another Halloween classic that is often at the top of many fall-time movie lists. The movie is set during Halloween in Salem, Massachusetts which is often seen as spooky, especially during the Halloween season. The movie follows three kids on Halloween night after one brings back witches from the 17th century. Witches, the undead and immortal beings keep the movie spooky, but the movie is still child friendly. This movie keeps a balance between truly scary Halloween movies and spooky ones.
4. Twilight
“Twilight” is another great fall film and is also a franchise. The lighting filter put over all the movies keeps the mood cold and fall-like, even if the setting isn’t in the fall. Although “Twilight” isn’t advertised as a comedy, there are definitely a couple of scenes that are funnier than likely intended. Vampires and werewolves are common Halloween creatures that are in every part of the “Twilight” series.
“Ghostbusters” has had many spin-offs since the original 1984 movie in 1984. All of the movies in the franchise deal with the supernatural and possession; three friends with paranormal backgrounds begin to help purgeNew York City of ghosts. The music along with the slight jumpscares might make some people think this is one of the more scary films on this list, but this is not often considered to be a horror film.
These five movies can be a great way to get ready for Halloween and fall without having to hide under a blanket too much during scary scenes.
