Over the years, the Pro Bowl has been a staple in the NFL community with it being an exciting event for fans every season. It’s an event where the best players are selected to play the week before the Super Bowl (similar to an all-star game in other sports). The game has a history, dating back to 1951 when the American Football Conference (AFC) played against the National Football Conference (NFC).
“It’s a good way to get players’ names out and play with the other best players in the league,” junior Isaiah Holland said.
This year will be the third year that the Pro Bowl has moved away from contact football to flag football. Instead of a standard 100-yard by 53-yard field, the field has been condensed to a 50 by 28 yards. The game will also be 20 minutes instead of the usual hour.
“I don’t like the changes, but I understand why the league made the change because they don’t want players to risk getting injured,” sophomore, Zaveian Harris said.
During the season, some surprising phenoms performed above expectations and made it to the Pro Bowl. Rookies Jayden Daniels and Brock Bowers both made it while putting up all-time numbers for their positions early in their careers.
“Jayden Daniels is awesome,” junior, Addison Talley said. “I never thought my Commanders would ever have a competent quarterback. He has turned our team around after we have been awful for years.”
The main game is on Sunday, February 2nd, but there are skills games on Thursday, January 30th. The skills games are a fun way to see the players’ personalities with them playing games like dodgeball, tug of war, and relay races while going against the opposite division. The game will be played on ESPN.
“The Pro Bowl is one of my favorite parts of the season,” Talley said. “My dad and I always sit down and watch the game.”
