Girls Soccer
With the addition of a new varsity coach, Michael Rohr, coaches hope to see growth within both the younger girls and the older girls in both practices and games within the girls soccer program. One of the team’s goals this season is to start each day fresh with a new mindset. During practices, both junior varsity and varsity have been working on endurance training. The addition of a new coach and new practice drills has made both players and coaches hopeful for the future of the program, and playing with confidence has been a large focus in practices throughout this season so far.
“Playing with confidence will teach that even when we don’t win, they can all just learn from it and get better for the next game,” Rohr said.
Boys Soccer

For the upcoming spring season, the boys varsity soccer team is looking to enhance team collaboration skills as well as communicating with each other during practices and games. They are also looking to improve their team record by focusing on passing, shooting, and tactical awareness skills. Coaches also plan to add times throughout the week when the team reviews game tape, discusses any concerns that they may have, and holds extra sessions for skill practice. Overall, the team hopes to improve and grow by working together and being in a clear and positive mindset.
“If the team gives their best effort every game, we will achieve great things,” coach Wesley Clements said.
Tennis
Both the boys and girls tennis teams are beginning their season with a positive attitude, with the addition of a new assistant coach, Jimmy Koczan, and many new players. The team has been preparing for their first match against Charlottesville by focusing on hand-eye coordination, footwork, and technique. Coaches are working with the new athletes to teach them the basics and give them tips and tricks, while experienced players work on improving all technical skills. The program this year has created various new ways to communicate amongst the team and has worked to become more organizational for players and coaches. For example, the team’s Google Classroom consists of various Google Forms that they fill out for team communication. Athletes are looking forward to growing as a team and the opportunity to now work with two coaches.
“I am excited for this season and the opportunity to work with the beginners,” senior player Amiah Ayres said. “Practices have been fun because we are able to see where everyone is at skills-wise.”

Outdoor track
As the season converts from indoor track to outdoor track, coaches and runners are determined and working in the hopes of sending more runners to states at the end of the season and breaking more school records. Alongside this, more athletes are available to attend events and building a strong team of runners as a whole is what coaches are focusing on, in order to ensure the accomplishment of their goals put into place now.
“While practices are primarily run the same, athletes will be able to run in nicer weather, as many do not get a break between seasons,” coach Amy Wilson said.
Baseball
This season, varsity baseball coaches and players have been working on improving and creating individual goals for the season in order to accomplish the overall goal of making it to the playoffs. Coaches have been working on communicating openly as a team to achieve a positive atmosphere and continue upholding positive relationships around the team. Being in the early stages of the season, players have been working on communication skills amongst each other and practicing different mentalities, which has become prominent.
“I am looking forward to watching the boys grow every day throughout the season, and I love being able to watch them try new things at practice,” varsity coach Kevin Fisher said.

Softball
The 2024-2025 varsity softball team is stepping onto the field prepared and ready to compete. As the season is starting at a fast pace, the team plans to succeed by continuously growing and by focusing on smaller details within the game and paying close attention in order to reach the state tournament. Another focus for coaches includes team bonding and maintaining positive relationships between players. The addition of new players each year keeps the program shifting, giving coaches an opportunity to work with new athletes and positioning them in plays where they will be best.
“This group has worked extremely hard since winter break, being at morning lifts, conditioning, and practices,” head softball coach Susan Sharpe said. “I think we are ready to see how we stack up to other teams in the district and region.”
