On Aug. 8, 2025, twenty-two years after “Freaky Friday (2003)” premiered, Disney rebooted the franchise with a new movie, titled Freakier Friday.

According to MSNBC News, “Freaky Friday (2003),” many viewers who watched it when it first premiered during the early 2000s or grew up watching with their families felt nostalgic.
“It’s one of my all-time favorite movies,” English teacher Darci Guess said. “I can’t remember if I saw the original in theaters or not, but I did own it on VHS and watched it fairly often.”
According to IMDB, in “Freaky Friday (2003),” Anna Coleman (Lindsey Lohan) and her mother, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), switch bodies because of two fortune cookies, allowing them to learn more about each other. Tess revisits high school, learning how difficult it is for her daughter, while Anna goes to her mother’s work, finding out Tess’ life is equally as difficult. Throughout the original movie, many moments stick out to the audience for their relatability and overall wow-factor.
“I still get the songs stuck in my head,” Guess said. “And watching Lindsey Lohan rock a guitar solo in a fancy purple dress? Iconic.”

The new movie, “Freakier Friday,” continues part of the same classic plot. According to IMDB, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, but the two girls are less than thrilled about becoming a blended family. When Anna, Tess, and the two girls switch bodies, the teenagers plot to end their parents’ engagement while the group attempts to switch back to their rightful places.
“I watched the new movie last weekend and really enjoyed it,” junior Madeline Spencer said. “[“Freaky Friday”] had a lot of callbacks and references to the original. I thought that it was funnier than the first one.”
