Jeff Buckley, a cornerstone of the 90’s rock scene, has received a movie about his life. Buckley, who passed away May 29, 1997 received his own biopic titled “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley,” after his famous song lyrics from “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over.” Buckley left an impact on the rock community with his song “Lilac Wine” and cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
“It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Aug. 8, and centers around a documentary style depiction of Buckley’s life using exclusive interviews from his close family and friends.
“I’m very excited for the movie,” junior Grace Marshall said. “I feel like there’s a lot we don’t know about him, and I hope that the movie will be a good portrayal of him as a person.”

The movie takes a dive into Buckley’s personal life, the beginning of his career, and the moments leading up to his death by drowning. It also takes a look at his relationship with his father, Tim Buckley, who also had a music career.
“I’m planning to go see the movie on September 4,” senior Adison Williams said. “I’m hoping that it’ll delve deeper into his relationship with his father and his childhood and what inspired him to start his career in music.”

Amy Berg, the director of “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley” also directed the documentary film “Deliver Us From Evil,” which was nominated for an Academy Award. The documentary skyrocketed her career as a director.
“I’m expecting a good documentary style,” senior Lilith Zaleski said. “I’m hoping for him to be portrayed correctly and produced well. They interviewed his mother and friends, so I’m just hoping for it to be made well.”
