WRESTLING
The varsity wrestling team is preparing for this upcoming season with a positive attitude, and a concentrated mindset. Roger Stewart, who has coached the team for the past few years, has pushed athletes further by holding consistent off-season practices starting in August. He has also been, and will continue to instill the importance of teamwork and working hard in each of his athletes that he coaches. This year, the team has already hosted one of their largest wrestling tournaments, the David Wells Invitational on December 7th, and this consisted of twenty different teams, which is four more than last year’s competition.
“I know that a lot of us have been putting in the amount of work that we need to in order to ensure a successful season,” sophomore Max Edwards said. “I am just super excited to see how much we can grow as a team.”
SWIM/DIVE
The swim and dive team is entering the 2024-2025 season hopeful, and many returning swimmers are planning on finishing what they started last year, such as beating school records. Due to Louisa not having a pool able to accommodate the kind of practices that the swimmers need, this causes them to have to travel for all practices and meets. This gives the opportunity for team bonding and relationship building throughout the season. Though swim and dive is mainly an individual sport, team members push each other towards individual goals which will in return better the team overall.
“We got super close to beating a few of the school records last year, so I am hoping that we will be able to go all of the way this season,” sophomore Brody Spangler said. “I think that is a good goal for the team to strive towards.”
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The varsity girl’s basketball team is approaching this upcoming season a little different compared to years prior. This year, the varsity team consists of all lower-classmen except for two returning seniors, and the junior varsity team consists mostly of 8th graders. Although the program has yet to experience both teams containing such young players before, many have expressed their eagerness for the season and are looking forward to seeing how each young athlete will hold up throughout the season. Alongside, the program is striving for a win in the playoffs this year.
“I am most excited about hanging out with my friends and coming together as a team through holiday activities such as secret santa.” said Stella Keiningham.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The 2024-2025 varsity boys basketball team is stepping foot on the court ready and prepared for a new season. Throughout practices, coaches have been working closely with athletes to improve on fastbreak drills, and being able to play at a faster pace together during games. Some players have even started setting their own goals for themselves such as scoring a certain number of points in a game, or being able to see improvement as the season progresses.
“I’m excited to be playing a different position this season, and I hope to average at least 15 points per game.” Jonathan Anderson said.
INDOOR TRACK
As the indoor track season starts back up, many runners are transitioning from the cross country season or other sports. Although many runners have continued to return over the years, indoor track is also met with a large turnout of newcomers each year at tryouts and typically most make the team. The amount of new athletes introduced to the team allows for new talent to be scouted out each year and a constant change in runners each season. It also adds variety to the team.
“I think that track is going to be another great way for me to meet new people and I am excited to see how the season will go.” says foreign exchange student Carolina Juarez Ramon.
