“The Housemaid” is a 2025 psychological thriller movie based on the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden. It stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie, a young woman haunted by her past, who takes on a live-in-job with a wealthy family hoping for a fresh start. What seems like the “perfect home” quickly turns into a tense, twisted experience.
As Millie settles into the job, strange situations begin to unfold. The family she works for appears perfect on the outside, but their behavior raises red flags. The movie slowly reveals secrets, creating suspense and making the audience question every character.
“Sydney Sweeney made her character feel easy to root for, since she was trying to escape,” said senior Haylee Snow.
Sweeney portrays Millie with a restrained and tense acting style that fits the film’s tone. She shows the character’s fear, determination, and desire to escape her past. Amanda Seyfried also stands out as Nina, the unpredictable character. Her character adds tension and drama, making scenes uncomfortable in a way that fits the thriller genre.
“I was on the edge of my seat most of the movie,” said senior Lauren Goodman.

The film’s dark lighting and quiet moments help create a creepy and uneasy atmosphere. The pace is steady, allowing the suspense to build naturally. While some scenes may feel dramatic or unrealistic, they add to the overall excitement of the film rather than taking away from it.
“I was super excited to watch, because once I did, I couldn’t stop thinking about all the plot twists that happened throughout.” said Snow.
Overall, “The Housemaid” is a suspenseful movie that appeals to students who enjoy thrillers and plot twists. It keeps viewers guessing, delivers strong performances, and leaves a lasting impression.
“I would definitely watch this movie again, because it’s so good,” said Goodman.
