On Sept. 17, the VHSL released new information regarding sports and activities for the 2020-2021 school year. The new schedules are as follows:

“Championships + 1” Condensed Interscholastic Plan (full schedule attached)
Season 1 (Winter) December 7 – February 20 (First Contest Date – December 21)
-Basketball, gymnastics, indoor track, swimming and diving, wrestling
Season 2 (Fall) February 4 – May 1 (First Contest Date – March 1)
-Competition cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, volleyball
Season 3 (Spring) April 12 – June 26 (First Contest Date – April 26)
-Baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track, and field
Academic Activities (December – June)
-Theatre, Scholastic Bowl, Forensics, Debate, Robotics, Film Festival, Creative Writing,
Publications Evaluation, and Multimedia Contest.

Additionally, all sports will play a condensed season consisting of 60% of the normal amount of games/competitions played. For example, basketball teams normally play 22 games; this season, they will play 14. Every sport will have a state championship. The “Championships +1” schedule allows one week for region tournaments and one week for the state tournament. Teams who do not participate in region tournaments are allowed to schedule one game/contest and complete it during the week designated for regional tournaments.
