Other winners include both candidates from the Democratic party, Jay Jones, the new Attorney General, and Ghazala Hashmi the newly elected Lieutenant Governor.
¨Youngkin and Spanberger have very different beliefs, and so I think that reflects through the policies that they put in place, so I think changes will come,¨ sophomore Austyn Frame said. ¨I’m interested to see how it’s going to play out.¨

Abigail Spanberger is the first female governor of Virginia. She will begin her four year term in Jan., 2026. A few of the things she has said she plans to focus on during her time as governor are education, public safety, and the cost of living.
“I really hope that this starts to bring change throughout our country, and more females in offices,” junior Hurley Lucckese said. ”It doesn’t have to just be Democrats, and it doesn’t just have to be Republicans. Women bring a different viewpoint, and more opinions along with diversity. It’s so important that we have a diverse government.”
In the race for Attorney General, Jay Jones won. His views align with Spanberger’s, and together they will strive to create a sense of security among all social classes and demographics.
“No job is more important for Virginia’s Attorney General than ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities,” Jay Jones said on his campaign website.
Newly elected Lieutenant Governor, Ghazala Hashmi wants to bring awareness to environmental protection while also prioritizing public education. She will be working alongside Jones and Spanberger to achieve her goals in these areas.
“I’m hoping that this will bring unity within Virginia,” Lucckese said.
