Announced on March 25, 2025, the long awaited third instalment of the Tomodachi Life series, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is nearing its release date, April 16, 2026. Fans of the series have been waiting 12 years for this anticipated release.
Originally starting out with Tomodachi Collection, a Japan-only exclusive game released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS, it began with the theme of a social simulator taking place on an apartment island. In 2013, the second release and first for outside audiences was released under the moniker “Tomodachi Life.” Now in 2026 the third game will be released. This new release gives an updated view for those who may have not played the originals.
As promised by the developer, this game will have new features. Currently only 2 trailers and a section in Nintendo Direct have been shown leaving many details of the games up to speculation.
“I’ve never played the original [Tomodachi Life], but hopefully crazy fun stuff will be in the game.” Junior Brian Conklin said.
Tomodachi Life gained traction by fans both past and present for its eccentric humor and randomness of scenarios. Fans of the original series hope for more character customization, and a more varied game play loop.
“I hope it’s going to be less of a ‘wait per day’ kind of thing,” senior Elizabeth Palmer said. “I hope you could just play it for however long you want without having to excessively wait for the next day.”

Nostalgia from fans of the original worldwide release has players calling for both a return to the original characteristics and new features to complement the returning elements.
“I really think that the concert hall and the original 3DS version was really cool, and it hasn’t been shown in any of the trailers,” sophomore Aaron Weatherholtz said. “I’m not sure if that’s gonna be in the game, but I’d really like that to be in the game.”
