This past weekend, the senior team consisting of 4-H members Lillian Hawley, Audrey Ryan, Sophie Ryan, and Ashlynn Shroyer showcased their knowledge in the state level 4-H Wildlife Competition, facilitated by the national Wildlife Habitat Education Program (WHEP).

According to the official WHEP site, “WHEP is a 4-H and FFA youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management to junior and senior level (ages 8-19) youth in the United States.”
Annually, there are competitions held in WHEP supporting states where teams of three to four individuals compete in their age category and test their understanding of wildlife identification and habitat management.
After the teams completed the competition, scores were calculated and the team placed first place in the state-level competition. The winning team earned their spot in the annual National WHEP Contest; here, the team will represent Louisa and Virginia at the National 4-H Wildlife Competition in Myrtle Beach this July.
