Louisa County High School English teacher Kate Fletcher is taking on the 10th annual Lion Pride Run, a scholarship fundraiser she began in 2015 to support students. The event was created to raise money for scholarships and give back to the school community; over the years, Fletcher has completed runs to several destinations including Washington D.C., Monticello, and Zion Crossroads Dunkin’. This year, she is running 107 miles from Louisa County High School to Jamestown. The route was chosen to recognize both the 10th anniversary of the Lion Pride Run and America’s 250th birthday. Since it began, The Lion Pride Run has become a tradition connected to student support and school involvement. The fundraiser highlights Fletcher’s continued efforts to use long-distance running as a way to raise scholarship money for students who cannot afford college and have overcome something in their lives. As the event continues, the Lion Pride Run remains a significant event for the Louisa community.
