For senior night, wrestling hosted a tri-match against Goochland and Orange on Jan. 19th. Louisa defeated Goochland 36-30 and Orange 42-36.

The Lions gained two more wins as they extended their undefeated record. They are dominating the Jefferson District with a team record of 8-0.

Senior captain, Alex Bradford, has been impressed with his team as they continue to win.

“We’ve done a lot better than the last couple of years even though the team is so young. There are four to five talented underclassmen that are going to be good next year as well,” Bradford said.

He went 2-0 for the night while pinning one of his opponents. Bradford sits with a 22-7 record in the 170lb weight class as the regular season nears to an end. He has a spot in regional play locked in, and he’s not looking to be stopped on his last shot for a state championship.

Similarly, junior Gianpaolo Ciotola won both matches for the night as he extended his record to 31-4 in the 120lb weight class.

“It feels good to be doing so well because I had high expectations for myself prior to the season, but I am not done yet,” Ciotola said.

Ciotola has secured a spot in regional play, and he looks to knock off a couple opponents there. He is already familiar with most regional opponents as he faced them during exhibition matches.

Sophomore Gabe Froschauer sits with a 15-6 record for the year in the 145lb weight class. Froschauer also secured a spot in regionals and is looking to succeed.

“It felt good to go 2-0 and be dominant against district rival opponents, and I am excited for regionals,” Froschauer said.
