Cassie’s Christmas Movie Watch Guide

As the holiday season is upon us, I have curated a list of my top ten Christmas movies and specials for your enjoyment. I have always loved Christmas time, and there is no greater feeling than cozying up with a mug of hot chocolate to watch a Christmas movie.

“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”

“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” is a classic television special. It uses stop-motion animation to show Rudolph and his bright nose find his place in the North Pole and guide Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. I have memories of watching this special while decorating the Christmas tree. It always makes me feel cozy, and I love to reminisce on past Christmases.

You can watch Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas  or rent it on Amazon Prime.

“The Christmas Chronicles 1 and 2”

The first “Christmas Chronicles” follows two siblings, Kate and Teddy, as they are home alone on Christmas Eve and catch Santa Claus in the act of delivering presents. They must put their differences aside to keep the Christmas magic alive and ensure Santa delivers all of the presents before it’s too late. The second “Christmas Chronicles” takes Kate and Teddy to the North Pole where they must protect Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves from danger. The first “Christmas Chronicles” is my favorite as Teddy and Kate remind me of my brother’s and my relationship.

You can stream both Christmas Chronicles on Netflix.

“Frosty the Snowman”

“Frosty the Snowman” is a television special about a snowman built by a group of kids, but when he is capped with a magical hat, he comes to life. The kids must protect Frosty from a sneaky magician who is trying to steal his hat. Watching this always gives me a good laugh and puts me in the holiday spirit.

You can watch Frosty the Snowman on Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas or rent it on Amazon Prime.

“The Grinch”

The Grinch lives alone with his dog Max in a mountain cave above Whoville. While the townspeople of Whoville spread Christmas cheer, the Grinch hates everything about the holiday season. Although he may want to steal the Christmas spirit, a little girl named Cindy-Lou teaches him the real reason for the season. There is a cartoon version, a live-action version, and a more recent cartoon version. Personally, I prefer the 2018 adaptation as I think the music and cartoons are better.

You can stream the “2018 Grinch” on Peacock or rent it on Amazon Prime Prime.

“Home Alone”

The “Home Alone” series features three boys who are stuck at home during the Christmas season, all under different circumstances. Each boy has a run-in with a group of burglars and must protect their home and themselves from danger. The first and second movie is about Kevin McCallister.  In the first movie, he was forgotten by his family when they leave for vacation.  In the second, Kevin is lost in New York City and protects a toy shop. The third movie is about Alex Pruitt who is home sick with chicken pox. I love to watch these movies as they always give me a good laugh around the holidays.

You can stream the “Home Alone” series on Disney Plus.

“The Year Without a Santa Claus”

“The Year Without a Santa Claus” is another television special following Santa and his elves. As the Christmas spirit has declined, Santa feels ill and decides to skip delivering presents. His elves try to find anyone who still believes in Santa and his magic to make him feel better, thereby inspiring him to make his annual journey. This movie is such a classic, and the stop motion animation has so much detail.

You can rent “The Year Without a Santa Claus” on Amazon Prime.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas”

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” follows Charlie and his group of friends during the holiday season. Charlie Brown becomes upset because the real meaning of Christmas is lost. Once he spends time with his friends and helps with the school holiday pageant, they determine the real meaning of Christmas. This is one of my grandmother’s favorite movies, and I have such fond memories of watching this while we bake Christmas cookies.

You can stream A Charlie Brown Christmas on Apple TV or rent it on Amazon Prime.

“Mickey’s Christmas Carol”

“Mickey’s Christmas Carol” is Disney’s version on the original story written by Charles Dickens. The story is about Ebeneezer Scrooge, who despises Christmas, and his faithful employee who works hard to provide for his family. Scrooge receives visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. He must battle with his feelings and figure out what is best. Although some may be partial to the original, I have always enjoyed this story portrayed by Mickey and the other clubhouse characters.

You can stream “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” on Disney Plus

“The Santa Clauses”

The first “Santa Clause” movie follows a single dad and his son on Christmas Eve who are magically transported to the North Pole after accidentally causing the former Santa to fall off the roof. The dad takes on the role of Santa, and his adventures are displayed throughout the other two movies. These movies are a favorite in my house and we love to watch them all in order.

You can stream “The Santa Clauses” on Disney Plus.

“Good Luck Charlie: It’s Christmas”

This movie shows the chaotic Duncan family while they travel to visit their grandparents for Christmas. When they get separated, the family must find their way back to each other before it’s too late. This movie gives me such a good laugh every time I watch it, and it gives me such nostalgia.

You can stream “Good Luck Charlie: It’s Christmas” on Disney Plus

I hope you enjoyed this list of my favorite Christmas specials. Happy Holidays!
